Water ramping

After a long day at the races it was hard to pull myself out of bed this morning to go water ramping. But I'm glad I did.

The Lilydale water ramps, which are about a 50min drive from inner city Melbourne, are pretty ghetto (compared to the plush chlorine and bubbles of the Park City and Lake Placid water ramps). But we make do.

There are all kinds of weird and disgusting animals out there; Leaches, sluggybugs. frogs, ducks, kookaburras, my sister even found a ferret.

Nat and I accessorized our sleek black wetsuits and charming helmet hats with some hot-pink zinc. The latest trend in the Spring/Summer collections.
Me getting some sweet air. This clip is bad quality as it was taken from my digi camera. But you can get an idea.

Horse Walk

I was walking a little like a lame horse by the end of my day at Flemington racecourse this Saturday. I thought my feet were tough after spending countless days shoved in ski boots. But after half a day of walking in a pair of 5 inch Giorgio Armani heels I have a new found respect for the girls who made it to the end. I didn't end up in bare feet! I took flats.

The Melbourne Spring Racing carnival is probably the biggest event in Victoria. It is a week of fashion, champagne, chicken sandwiches and of course horse racing. It is focused around the Melbourne Cup- a race so important that all Victorians are given a public holiday.

The last few years I've worked at the races, catering in big corporate tents to earn money for Winter in the US. But this year I cut myself some slack and went to hang out with my friends instead.

Heading out to Flemington with the girls
The Curtis family's beautiful set up in the nursery carpark
Some kook with a car park opposite ours had his bonnet popped- Thought this was kind of ironic, seeing that we were at the HORSE races.
Champagne and smiles all round
The other Anna, heading home after a long day in the sun
Afterparty!

I think it was this guy's house. He seems to be having fun.

A Day at Snowpark

This was one of my last days in NZ. It had been rainy almost all of August. Then the last few days I was there the sun came out and so did the camera. This is only a really short edit of a fun afternoon I had with Lyndon Sheehan and Sean Ballsaresmall (Kalhusdal).

Pow

I've been riding for Pow gloves for a couple of years now. But I was really stoked to make it more official by signing with them a few days ago.

The company has grown so much in a short amount of time. Their gloves are everywhere now- Aus, NZ, Europe and all over North America.

Check out their site at http://www.powgloves.com

Nice Try

Robbie Walker is my hero. He is one of the few Aussie snowboarders that has really made it over in the US. Plus he is one of the funnest cool-borders I have every had the pleasure of riding with. The crew that he filmed with last season- People- are kind of a big deal. Robbie got the second part in the movie, which makes him kind of a big deal!

So for anyone in Melbourne this weekend, looking for something a little different to do on a friday night, you should come along to the Australian premier of 'Nice Try' at the Kaleide Theatre at 7pm.

Hummus

One week of uni-studying to go before I am finished with exams and the semester. I have taken procrastinating to a new level by getting heavily involved with hummus production.

This has been influenced by my sister, who is an amazing vegetarian cook, and the fact that we have both moved out together and are too stingey to spend our food budget on luxuries such as dips.

Hummus is super easy and cheap to make. All you need is dried (or canned) chickpeas, tahini paste, a few other little additives and a food processor.

As I was searching the internet to find the best way to soak dried chickpeas, I came across this awesome (but a little crazy) Hummus Blog. Hummus blogger goes into great detail about all things hummus. Check it out if you are in need of some procrastination, or just love hummus

Beach time

Before this little beach break I hadn't left Melbourne since I got back from NZ. A month and a half in one place! That's a long time for me.

My family has just bought a beach house about an hour and twenty out of Melbourne. I got a good dose of family, food and sunshine which completely recharged me.

Here are some pics of Portsea back beach. Before I started traveling for skiing I grew up spending my Summers here. Portsea is the 3rd most dangerous beach in Australia- it taught me a few good lessons about how not to drown.
